The Labrador Straits Development Corporation (LSDC) in partnership with Labrador Preserves and Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN) proposed to conduct a market survey that would determine if it was feasible to produce Wild Berry Jam Packets in Economic Zone 5 generating employment opportunities in both the harvesting and processing sector.

The objective of this pre-commercial experiment was to determine the market potential for Wild berry Jam Packets in and outside the Labrador Straits area. A market survey wasdesigned in conjunction with the partners identified above and Memorial University, under their Academic Partnering Program, would prepare and execute the survey determining the feasibility of this initiative.

The direct benefits to the industry as a result of this initiative were:

  • Increase in harvesting at the regional level.
  • Increase in work force in the processing sector.
  • Identification of market potential in side and outside of Labrador Straits.
  • A direct financial impact on the local economy.
